Mark your calendar so you do not miss ALTERNATIVES 2008
Adam's Mark Hotel - Buffalo, New York Join us in Buffalo, the city of "Good Neighbors," and be a part of creating a learning community that is a diverse and supportive environment designed especially for you!
Make sure to mark your calendars for October 29 through November 2! SEE YOU THERE!
The National Empowerment Center announces that Alternatives 2008, the national mental health conference organized by and for mental health consumers and survivors, will be in Buffalo, New York at the Adam's Mark Hotel on October 29 through November 2, 2008.
New Englanders first settled Buffalo, The City of Good Neighbors, referring to the helpful, friendly spirit of its inhabitants, is also known as The City of No Illusions, and The City of Light. In 2001 USA Today named Buffalo the winner of its "City with a Heart" contest, proclaiming it the nation's "friendliest city." Niagara Falls, one of the natural wonders of the world, straddling the international border separating the Canadian province of Ontario and the US state of New York, are 17 miles northwest of Buffalo. This year's theme is "Creating Community Through Active Citizenship" Creating or building Community is a process of finding a place of belonging, sharing our stories, making consensual decision, built upon respect for all individuals and inclusive of difference. Active Citizenship is changing one's community through involved participation to improve life for all. Now more than ever, we are called to become active partners in our communities, and the world by exercising our rights and responsibilities as citizens.
Join us in Buffalo at Alternatives 2008, as we create a learning community and share our stories as consumer/survivors with wisdom and hope. Out of our common experience, we become conscious of the power of being part of creating something larger than ourselves, as we become active citizens in our community.
