National Network for Mental Health President, Loise Forest announced today, that Joan Edwards Karmazyn has been appointed the new National Executive Director of the NNMH after a selection process that saw many extremely qualified candidates.
As many of you know Joan had been fulfilling the position on a part-time basis over the last few months in the role of NED (Interim) with the NNMH. She will assume her duties effective today, September 1st, 2010.
"As the NED (Interim) and as the past President of the NNMH, Joan has demonstrated outstanding leadership and tireless commitment to assisting the NNMH over the past six years, and of late during this period of transition, says Forest." "The NNMH's Board of Directors is delighted that she has been appointed the organization's next National Executive Director." Joan brings with her over 35 years of management and leadership experience working with and advocating passionately on behalf of those who live with mental illness. Joan states "that she is honoured to step into such an important role at this time in the NNMH's history and looks forward to working on behalf of its membership, for this a great opportunity to make a difference." "I have experienced and have seen firsthand the devastating effect poor mental health can have on one personally, on a family and within the community. The NNMH is looking to build strong stakeholder partnerships individually and collectively to strive for the given, that mental health become the foundation of total health for all Canadians", said Edwards Karmazyn.
