In June 2007, the Canadian Brain and Nerve Health Coalition, in partnership with the Canadian Institute for Health Information and the Public Health Agency of Canada, published a report on the burden of neurological diseases, disorders and injuries in Canada. The report is intended to improve understanding of the epidemiology of neurological conditions and the economic impact on the Canadian health care system. The report provides estimates of the economic burden, disability-adjusted life years and hospital utilization associated with 11 neurological conditions. The neurological conditions highlighted in the report are Alzheimer's Disease, ALS, brain tumours, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, head injury, headaches, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, spinal injuries and stroke.
